Subject: Rocket Ride Update
After a wet start the team headed of to Richmond. After climb after climb the support crew and vans were doing well with the help of the ten cyclists. Whose vast appetite help lessen the payload and increase both speed and fuel economy. Much deserved drink and cake was waiting at the station. Again out of Richmwond the team climbed up to Hawes for much deserved lunch having completed nearly 60 miles.

Fwd: Press Release: Rocket-Ride Fight to Beat Cancer - Route Finalised
After months of planning and preparation the route for the inaugural Rocket-Ride Fight to Beat Cancer has been finalised - and what a challenge it will present for the small team of riders doing this two day ride.The journey from Durham to Sandbach will take in some of the most beautiful and yet challenging roads in the Pennines and will test the cyclists' endurance and climbing abilities. Having returned from a 75 mile training ride on Sunday 5th June the riders felt confident they could achieve the goal of completing the ride but that keeping everyone together as a single group would indeed be a challenge.On Saturday 18th June the team will ride from the Dun Cow Inn, Old Elvet Durham and head for Richmond in North Yorkshire. The route then heads up into the Yorkshire Dales crossing the Pennines via Hawes and Settle before arriving in Clitheroe via Horton in Ribblesdale. The team will spend the night in Clitheroe before continuing their journey on Sunday morning 19th June. The route back to Sandbach Rugby Club will go via Preston, Shevington Vale, Warrington, Stretton and Knutsford."The aim is to arrive back in Sandbach at around 3 p.m. and to attend the Fathers Day celebration event being staged by Sandbach Rugby Club" says ride organiser Pete Andjelkovic. "I played with Rocket during my time as a player at Sandbach, and the ride will be a great way to remember him, his personal fight against cancer, and also our collective responsibility to keep up the fight to beat this disease that will affect one in three of us over our lifetime. The challenge of a few steep climbs and 180 miles of pedalling is one we can all overcome. We have to believe we can ultimately do the same when searching for treatments for cancer. Local Businesses Get Together in the Fight to Beat Cancer
Businesses in Sandbach are combining forces with a group of local cyclists in the Fight to Beat Cancer. 10 cyclists from Sandbach are planning to ride approximately 180 miles from Durham to Sandbach over the weekend of 18th and 19th June to raise money for our regional specialist cancer centre - The Christie Hospital. The inspiration for the ride and its route is the memory of their friend Steve "Rocket" Holmes who succumbed to cancer of the colon in July 2009.
The ride is being supported by a group of local businesses and clubs to help promote the ride and make the arrival in Sandbach an event to whole town can take part in.
"The ride is scheduled to get back to Sandbach at around 3.00 pm on 19th June which is also Father's Day" comments Pete Andjelkovic, one of the ride organisers.
"We've been working alongside a number of local businesses to make the event something the whole of Sandbach can be proud of and can share in. Sandbach Rugby Club are combining with Symphony Bar and Grill to stage a Father's Day event on Sunday 19th May, and so our arrival and end destination will be Sandbach Rugby Club. To increase awareness and also to raise funds for The Christie in the Fight to Beat Cancer we have produced a commemorative T-shirt. Proceeds from the sales of the T-shirt will be added to the funds raised", continues Pete.
"This is where the local businesses are being a great help. The T-shirts can be bought direct from Burnells Cards and Gifts and Dennis Peever menswear. In addition orders can be placed at Fragola Cafe, The Cycle Junction, The Black Bear and The Sandwich Store. The T-shirt costs £10 with all proceeds going to The Christie Fund"
As a further incentive to buy a T-shirt and join the Fight to Beat Cancer, anyone attending the Father's Day event and arrival of the cyclists at Sandbach Rugby Club on 19th June will receive a voucher for a free drink.
"We've had great support so far from local businesses in Sandbach and over the coming weeks we hope to involve more. If anyone is interested in helping promote the event they just need to get in touch" says Pete Andjelkovic.
